Botswana was officially admitted as a member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). The announcement was made by the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Honourable Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, at the WFDB Summit held in Gaborone today.
The WFDB Summit brought together leaders of international diamond bourses, investors, policymakers and strategic partners, including the Botswana Stock Exchange, for an engagement that for a long time will position Botswana not only as a producer of natural diamonds but also as the global benchmark for provenance, authenticity, responsible sourcing and organic luxury.
Minister Kenewendo further announced that Botswana is joining the diamond bourses through the Botswana Mercantile Exchange.
The admission of Botswana as a member of WFDB is a significant milestone for Botswana as she celebrates her Diamond Jubilee (60th anniversary) in 2026. By being a member of WFDB, Botswana will actively participate in the highly secure diamond trading platform through which diamond dealers, cutters, polishers and jewellers from major global trading centres interact to trade rough and polished diamonds, hence improving the marketing of Botswana diamonds.
