A huge pear-shaped diamond, which was unearthed in Jwaneng, Botswana was auctioned for a record price of USD 26.7 million at Christie’s auction house in Geneva. Christie’s said that at 101.73 carats it was the largest D-colour flawless diamond ever offered at auction.

As it was the first time the gem had come up for sale, the buyer was entitled to name it. The new owners named the diamond “The Winston Legacy,” after Harry Winston – whose firm was recently acquired by Swatch for one (b) billion US dollars. (Tautona Times)
