Barclays Bank of Botswana has partnered with the Youth Alliance for Leadership and Development (YALDA) to deliver a financial literacy program for university and college students.

The program aims to reach one hundred and fifty students from University of Botswana, Botho College, Botswana Accountancy College and Limkonkweng University. It consists of training on money management as well as presentations from a variety of experts around investment options, savings, debt management and insurance.

“Barclays is proud to be a partner in programs that seek to promote a better understanding of effective and sustainable ways of managing money and promoting financial literacy as this is a critical aspect of the development of the communities that we serve,” Yodit Molosi, Barclays Community Relations manager said.

Yodit shared that Barclays Community Investment program focuses on providing the next generation with the skills that they require to live an economically active and healthy life. “We will continue to be a force for good in all the communities in which we operate. We are excited about this program and the opportunities that we have to replicate it across Botswana.”

YALDA is an international non-profit organization that was established in order to create a resourceful networking database for those with a strong interest in Africa. The network consists of YALDA branches, primarily at African universities, and serves to increase the capacity of youth in Africa for developing positive leadership skills and to espouse an honest work ethic.

The network’s main objective is to encourage youth participation in community work by directing them to information and resources, provided by individuals and other organisations. This is intended to help young people develop in their chosen careers and also assist them in developing projects and organisations aimed at making significant and positive social impact across the continent.
