PPC Botswana has announced dates for this year’s Number 1 Builder competition. Kick-off of the fourth edition of the search is May 1 and closes on the 31st July 2013. PPC will continue its informative workshops countrywide again this year in major construction sites – Gaborone, Francistown and Maun. Plans are underway to intensify more participation the workshops this year.
“Our partners Tshipidi Badiri, AAB, ABCON and China Civil as representatives of major players in the construction industry will bring their respective members to the workshops. Together we can capacitate the industry about safety, standards and trends.
PPC will bring concrete technology experts, architects and many more to share their expertise as part of the education drive of Number 1 Builder Competition. This is a way of giving back to the community where we operate and draw our employees,” says Werner De Beer PPC Botswana General Manager.
PPC Botswana’s Number 1 Builder Competition targets all builders big and small in two categories – Civil and Commercial, and the Building Construction. It aims to showcase excellence in Botswana’s building industry. By rewarding outstanding projects in the two categories and various projects, PPC is encouraging industry’s best practice and standards.
“The competition’s panel of judges is mostly drawn from diverse backgrounds related to construction industry such as: architecture, civil engineering, quantity surveying and concrete technology. They do not only boast a lot of expertise in industry but they bring unique thinking when reviewing various projects of the competition, and this is a critical aspect of the competition,” says Werner De Beer, the General Manager of PPC Botswana.
The judging criterion includes safety practices on site, being on time and within budget, application, finishing and the overall aesthetic appeal of the finished project.
“While excellent workmanship was an important component in this competition we wanted to highlight our commitment to safety in the industry. For PPC our employees are the most important part of our business and their safety is paramount. By instilling this belief throughout Botswana we hope to make all construction sites as safe as our PPC sites,” said De Beer.
