Chef of Excellence returns to Jwaneng for 3rd year in a row

chef 2Eight of the very best chefs in Botswana will bring their sharpest knives, coolest nerves and hottest techniques to Jwaneng as they compete to be named two of the best chefs during a day-long competition on Friday, August 9th beginning at 08h00. The showdown, titled Chefs of Excellence, is a partnership between Debswana Jwaneng Mine and Camp Management Services Botswana (CMSB) and will be in its third installment since inception in 2011. The event will be hosted at Contractors’ Camp in Jwaneng.

The chef competition is specifically targeting skills development and upliftment of local Batswana Chefs. The winners of this event are sent on training to give them formal qualification and give them a step-up in the industry and enable them to become world class.

The runners up are all coached and assisted by their respective executive chefs. Promoting the career of being a chef, and this is done by CMSB Jwaneng providing training to local schools, orphanages and MTTC trainees from Gaborone.debswana chef2

The winners of the 2011 competition were sent to France to further their culinary skills whilst the 2012 victors are still in Durban for further up skilling. The final prize this year will be 12 months internship at the world Famous Frenchman’s Creek Beach and Country Club in Florida, USA. There the winners will go through vigorous training as they cater in 7 different dining facilities as well as Banquet events that will range from US$1 000 to US$ 5 000 000.

Not only will the 2 winners get formalized training but the 6 remaining finalists will be the first chefs to go through training in the New training Kitchen that has been established in the Debswana Cut 8 Village.
