FNBB new Head OfficeFirst National Bank Botswana, through its charitable FNB Foundation, has continued its efforts to assist organisations in charitable ways, by donating a brand-new combi valued at P370 000 to Kamogelo Day Care Centre in Mogoditshane.

In addition to this donation, FNB Staff members at the First National Insurance Agency Division utilised the FNB Foundation Staff volunteer programme and collaborated towards revamping the Kamogelo Day care centre play ground.

The employees painted the playground and erected some facilities to give the centre a refreshed look. Both the combi and the playground were handed over to the Centre on 9th August 2013.

The FNB Foundation is the structure that administers the Corporate Social Investment Funds of First National Bank of Botswana. The Foundation provides the opportunity for greater involvement and co-operation with the community within which the company operates.

FNB Foundation was established in 2001 as FNB’s main social investment vehicle, offering assistance to formally constituted non-governmental and non-commercial organisations whose activities aim to improve the general welfare of Batswana. Support is offered in areas of community education, job creation, skills development, arts and culture, community sports and recreation and needy communities, especially children.

The FNB Foundation Fund has a Staff Volunteer Programme that affords the Bank’s employees an opportunity to identify a project of their choice and commit time, share skills or donate funds to support the project to achieve its objectives. On annual basis, FNBB allocates funds to each Branch/Division for employees to identify a project in the community deserving of assistance. The employees take part in the developmental processes of putting and completing structures as part of their voluntary gesture.

Amongst the key attendees present at the handover ceremony were Bishop Boniface Setlalekgosi of the Catholic Church and Dorcas Kgosietsile, a trustee of the FNBB Foundation.

“In line with the spirit of giving and helping where we can, the FNB Foundation is excited to be donating to such a worthy cause. The children of Kamogelo Day Care Centre will certainly be at an added advantage with access to safer and more reliable transport through this heartfelt donation,” said Oratile Moremong, CSR Manager for the FNB Foundation.

Kamogelo Day Care Centre was established by the Roman Catholic Church in 1998 to provide care for orphans and vulnerable pre-school children in Mogoditshane and surrounding areas. The children at the centre have one or both parents infected by HIV Aids. The centre is based on the belief that orphans and vulnerable children should be regarded as resources rather than victims. Therefore the centre provides the children with a stigma free environment in which they can enjoy easy access to quality education.

The relationship between the FNB Foundation and Kamogelo Day Care Centre dates back to 2002 when the Foundation contributed P207, 000 towards the construction of a pre-school classroom. The connection was further strengthened in 2004, when the Foundation donated a combi to the tune of P312, 000. In 2012 the banks Distribution Channel’s staff donated toys for the children at Christmas as part of the Staff Volunteer Projects initiative.

“We strongly believe in putting people first in everything we do and we know that we will continue to help people in all our communities. It is with this essence of giving and helping that FNB will further empower and enrich communities across Botswana.” added Moremong.
