The fourth chapter of the Tati Nickel MD’s Charity Sponsored Walk was held on 14 September 2013 in Francistown. The annual event brought droves of people from the Francistown community, communities in the vicinity of the Mine, Private sector, Government agencies, Parastatals, Non-Governmental Organisations, Tati Nickel employees and fitness activists from all over Botswana graced the occasion.
According to Norilsk Nickel, the parent company to Tati Nickel, the Charity Walk was started in 2010 with the main objectives being to raise money that can be used to help the needy and also assist communities to implement their projects/ideas through their Village Development Committees.
The walk also provides an informal platform to network with our business partners, public institutions, residents from neighboring villages and those from around Botswana in general.
Equally, the idea is to keep fit, that being one of the aims our CSR programme. “A healthy life is very important for us, and that is why every year we hold a community outreach wellness day for residents of Tati Siding, Matsiloje and Matshelagabedi.”
This year’s charity walk attracted approximately 650 people. The proceeds of the walk will primarily go towards the construction of yet two houses for the needy in the vicinity of the Mine, and the remainder will be used to assist charitable organisations.
