The BotswanaPost is again joining the rest of the Postal Operators around the world to celebrate the World Post Day on 9th October, 2013, under the theme “The Post, delivering for people and business daily”.
The World Post Day is celebrated annually on the 9th of October by all member countries to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern.
The day is celebrated for awareness of the role of the postal sector and its contribution to the social and economic development of its member countries.
BotswanaPost will hold the celebrations in Gumare in the Okavango District. BotswanaPost has made a commitment to celebrate World Post day in various areas across Botswana every year.
“The Post Office as one of the oldest institutions in the country has been delivering essential social and economic services to the citizens and businesses,” BotswanaPost said in a statement.
The Director General of UPU said in his 2013 message: “Posts around the world are diversifying their products and services to better meet customers’ needs for reliability, speed and security. As e-commerce grows, they are positioning themselves as the delivery of choice for goods ordered online”.
“The postal network remains the largest network in the world and a fundamental infrastructure that enables large segments of the economy to function”.
This year’s celebrations will also mark the official opening of the newly built Gumare Post Office which is a key milestone in the journey to transform, modernise and diversify BotswanaPost’s business.
