The Competition Authority will hold the National Competition Conference at Rileys Hotel in Maun on March 13, under the theme ‘’Competition and my business’’. The conference will be officially opened by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dorcas Makgato-Malesu.

The purpose of the conference is to create a platform for the Competition Authority and the Competition Commission to engage with key stakeholders. It will draw participants from business, tourism, agriculture, labour, aviation, government, academia and politics.

The keynote address will be delivered by Nandinee Kiran Meetarbhan, the Executive Director of the Competition Commission of Mauritius. Meertarbhan is one of the few women leaders to lead a competition agency, a recipient of the prestigious Africa Leadership Award. Meetarbhan is considered a mover and a shaker not only in her native land of Mauritius but throughout the sub-continent.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Competition Authority, Thula Kaira, will lead his team to introduce the mandate of the Competition Authority and what the Authority has achieved since April 2011.

This time the conference will hear about the impact that the interventions made by the Competition Authority and the Competition Commission have had on the economy.

The conference will not only be about the Competition Authority and Commission. There will a presentation on competition in tourism, competition in the beef industry, aviation and competition, corruption and tourism, public procurement and competition and micro-lending and competition.

Many of the presentation have a national appeal but there has been a deliberate effort to have bias towards those sectors that have a significant bearing on the North West and the Western regions. Proceedings will take place from 8am to 5pm. Contact Gideon Nkala at 71900900 for any enquiry.
