Today saw Stanbic Bank Botswana bring smiles to the faces of children at Kagisano Society Women’s Shelter (KSWS).

In a project driven by Stanbic Bank’s Workplace Banking (WPB) team, staff donated educational books and toys to Kagisano Society Women’s Shelter. The project, a staff initiative supported by the Bank as a whole, comes as yet another testament of Stanbic Bank’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which it operates.

“An unwavering dedication towards supporting and uplifting young children and promoting a greater literacy has always been an area of focus for Stanbic Bank Botswana. KSWS has become a key figure in the community for it’s incredible work and we are in admiration of the great strides they continue to make,” commented Mrs. Portia Motshegare, Workplace Banking Manager, Stanbic Bank Botswana. “We appreciate that this work extends to the children of homes affected by violence.”

KSWS, established in 1998, houses women and children who seek an escape from their unsafe l homes.  KSWS was established in response to Gender Based Violence (GBV), in particular violence against  women and children.

Said Ms. Lorato Moalusi-Sakufiwa, Director at KSWS, “We strive to put an end to gender-based violence in Botswana through the provision of safe and caring temporary shelter, counselling, community education and outreach and advocacy. With a team of 23 staff members including; interns and volunteers. To have an increasing number of corporates such as Stanbic Bank recognise our efforts and join us in creating more positive memories for those kids affected by GBV is admirable.”

“This is a wonderfully and rewarding project for all parties. It allows the children to experience the joy and laughter that comes from unwrapping new books and toys. It is an investment in trying to contribute towards a happier upbringing and empowering them to use literacy and education to propel themselves towards a better life which all children rightfully deserve. At the same time, it allows us to play a more hands on role within our community, and support the hard work of the team at KSWS. We are truly proud of our entire Workplace Banking team for such a heart-warming initiative and pleased to be a part of such a worthwhile project,” concluded Mrs. Motshegare.

Stanbic Bank Botswana continued to play an active role in driving financial literacy across all ages. Previous projects include support of St Peter’s Day Care centre, financial literacy programmes and platforms across local media, and the development of financial literacy books for use across the country.
