BotswanaPost has launched the Domestic Animals in Botswana Commemorative Stamp Issue at a Press Conference held at Poso House. The stamp will be released to the market on August 1st 2014. Speaking at the Press Conference on Monday, BotswanaPost Chief Executive Pele Moleta said as the Post continues in its journey to transform, the organisation has not ignored it’s core products such as stamps. He added that such core products are critical in the Post achieving its goal of being a P500 million Pula company with a cost to income ratio of 60% by 2016.
In the past three months BotswanaPost launched two stamp issues being, Lions of the Chobe Commemorative Stamps and Spectacular Birds of Botswana Stamps. Through these stamps, BotswanaPost not only contribute to the country’s tourism development but also support national initiatives such as highlighting the concern on dangers faced by endangered wildlife such as lions.
In keeping with BotswanaPost’s stamp-issuing policy, the August commemorative issue reflects a theme of life in Botswana, of interets to our collectors both locally and overseas. The launch of this Commemorative Stamp Issue depicts Domestic Animals of Botswana, reflects a theme of life in Botswana.
This stamp issue consists of six stamps of which: Four stamps (cattle, goats, chickens and donkeys) depict rural life and, Two stamps (cats and dogs) are being shown in an urban setting, noting the value of life that the dog adds in both urban and rural setting. The stamp issue also illustrates our relationship with domestic animals and their purpose in our lives.
The success of the Domestic Animals in Botswana Stamp issue as well as the Lions of the Chobe and Spectacular Birds of Botswana shall go a long way in contributing to BotswanaPost’s strategic goal.
At the Press Conference, it was also highlted that BotswanaPost will from from
5-12 August 2014 particpate at the PhilaKorea Stamp Exhibition in Seoul, South
Korea. The exhibition gives the organisation the opportunity to sell all the stamps launched in 2014 to an international forum of collectors, dealers, auctioneers and agents.
