The Ebola epidemic has forced the postponement of the highly anticipated Organisation of Eastern and Southern Africa Insurers’ 37th Annual Conference which was supposed to be held for the first time in Botswana at the GICC from the 18th to the 20th August 2014.

The conference has now been moved to November.

“We would like to notify the public and relevant stakeholders that the highly anticipated 37th OESAI Annual Conference, which has attracted over 170 delegates from Eastern and Southern Africa, and many other African countries which had been scheduled for the 17th to 20th August 2014 at the GICC in Gaborone, has been postponed due to the EBOLA epidemic that has affected most Western African Nations,” stated OESAI said in a statement.

“The epidemic has been a growing global concern, and it is an unfortunate occurrence.

We would like to ensure you that the Conference will still be hosted at a later date and has been scheduled from 16th to 19thNovember, 2014.”

The 37th OESAI annual conference was supposed to be held in Botswana for the first time and it was expected to bring together high level dignitaries from the insurance sector. Delegates were to come from all over Africa and beyond under the theme  “Overcoming barriers to enhancing regional capacity in the Insurance Industry’.

Lawrence Nazare, Chairman of OESAI said at the time of the announcement of the conference that they were grateful to the Botswana insurance community for taking up this task to organise this international conference.

“We have seen an increase in the number of delegates to our annual conferences and we anticipate that this year, more insurance executives will see the value in coming to Botswana. The insurance industry is faced with a number of challenges and these forums provide fertile ground for resolving many of our challenges through learning from experts, dialogue and networking”, Nazare said.
