With the vision of servicing the entire region and Africa, BotswanaPost has announced the introduction of first inter-postal transfer corridor with neighbouring Zimbabwe.
The service will be offered through Universal Postal Union (UPU) managed by International Financial System (IFS) and went live on 27 of August 2014. The introduction of the cross border transaction will result in BotswanaPost and ZimPost customers being able to send and receive money in real time between Botswana and Zimbabwe.
The IFS is a robust standalone application, that customers automate the processing and management of international and domestic (within Botswana) money orders. Presently, BotswanaPost uses IFS to provide electronic domestic order services. The IFS application, in addition to handling all phases of international and domestic money processing, provides advanced features that facilitate cash management and accounting.
This offers opportunity for many Zimbabweans who reside in Botswana to send remittances to their loved ones back home on a nominal fee. BotswanaPost boasts the largest footprint of 125 post offices while ZimPost has 220 post offices giving customers unparalleled convince.
This initiative along with both existing and new products and services are geared towards contributing to the BotswanaPost’s revenues in its Journey to Excellence of becoming a P500 million with a cost to income ratio of 60% by 2016.
