Mr. Lawrence Nazare, Chairman of OESAI
The highly anticipated 37th Organisation of Eastern and Southern African Insurers Annual Conference will be held at the GICC in Gaborone from the 16th to 19th November 2014 following a postponement from August 17th to 20th due to the EBOLA epidemic.
The conference will be held for the first time in Botswana, Gaborone and brings together potential insurance industry investors and high level dignitaries from the insurance sector. The conference has attracted delegates from all over Africa and beyond. It is important to ensure delegates and the public that OESAI adheres to Botswana Ministry of Health and Immigration Department who are maintaining the travel restrictions on people travelling from countries that have been declared as high risk countries.
The theme for the 37th OESAI annual conference is, “Overcoming barriers to enhancing regional capacity in the Insurance Industry.’ Topics and discussions will centre on the challenges the industry is facing in Eastern and Southern Africa and the enabling environments that stakeholders can create to overcome these challenges.
The conference is expected to explore ways that technology can enhance insurance penetration and capacity, climate change in Africa and the role that the insurance sector should play and how the sector can reposition itself to increase operational efficiency. Other discussion topics will include the economic benefits of a vibrant life insurance industry, professional development within the sector, reinsurance regulation and providing health insurance in Africa.
This conference is an opening for potential investors who are seeking expansion opportunities. Botswana is continuously seeking ways to diversify and expand its investor base. It is also an opportunity for local insurance companies to form partnerships with regional and International insurance companies. The OESAI conference is another gateway to potential investment and economic diversification.
