The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resource Conservation and Tourism through the Department of Waste Management and Pollution Control will be hosting a 2 day National Waste Management Pitso from the 17th – 18th October 2016 in Gaborone at Fairgrounds.

Mr. Tshekedi Khama
The Waste Pitso will be held under the theme “WASTE TO WEALTH”. This theme highlights the significance of waste as a resource and hence the main objective of the Waste Pitso is to unlock job opportunities in the waste sector by creating awareness on the available technologies for appropriate waste management measures, practices and the potential of waste as an economic good.
The keynote address will be given by the Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Tshekedi Khama. The new paradigm shift is to focus on waste minimisation, reuse and recycling. This approach will enhance the participation of all waste generators and will also create a better understanding of the economic benefits of waste recovery focusing on product life cycles rather than end–of-pipe solutions.
The Pitso will be attended by various stakeholders in Government, Local Authorities, Private sector, academic researchers, Civil Society Organisations, Parastatal bodies, Youth and Community Based Organisations. As part of the Waste Pitso there will be an ongoing exhibition on Waste Technology by different stakeholders in the waste management sector, and a waste based fashion show in the evening of the 17th October 2016.
