The Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) says its Chief Executive Officer, Keitumetse Setlang has left the organisation having served in the position since 2024 before her suspension earlier this year.
Prior to her departure, the CEO had been on suspension together with the tourism body’s Board Secretary Kgotso Miles Ollyn who has also departed.
“Botswana Tourism Organisation wishes to inform its valued stakeholders and members of the public that it has separated with its Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Keitumetse Setlang and Board Secretary Mr. Kgotso Miles Ollyn,” BTO said in a statement.
“BTO extends its sincere appreciation to Ms Setlang and Mr Ollyn for their contributions to the Organisation and wishes them well in their future endeavours.”
Setlang was appointed as CEO of BTO, whose responsibility is to amongst others market the country as a tourism destination to the national, regional and international markets, in July 2024 after acting on the position since May 2013.
When announcing her appointment, the Ministry of Environment & Tourism praised her for being instrumental in the development of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibition, a strategy that was promoting the country as a suitable place to host such events.
“With 26 years of extensive experience in the tourism industry both regionally and globally, she is poised to guide BTO with her vast expertise in promoting tourism and her deep commitment to sustainable development; her well-established career in the sector positions her as an ideal leader to drive BTO’s mission to position Botswana as a leading tourism destination,” the Ministry said then.
“Setlang’s profound understanding of the global tourism landscape, built from years of professional experience and training, equips her to effectively navigate and address both challenges and opportunities.”
“She is a strong advocate for sustainability, ensuring that BTO’s initiatives highlight Botswana’s natural and cultural attractions while prioritising their preservation for future generations.”
Setlang’s departure follows several other parastatal CEOs who have left since the new administration was ushered in after 2024 general elections. Others who departed their roles include those of Air Botswana, Botswana Housing Corporation, Botswana Oil, Gambling Authority, Botswana Vaccine Institute and Okavango Diamond Company amongst others.
