Sky Blue Dance Hub has been selected to perform at the Stepping Stones, Dance Umbrella as part of the Johannesburg Arts Alive International Festival on 31 August 2014. The programme kicks off the 26th anniversary celebrations of the Dance Umbrella, an annual collaboration of South African and international contemporary dance works.
Following the premiere of KENEILWE – A Dance for the Given at the Maitisong Festival 2014, Sky Blue Dance Hub has performed the production in Harare, Zimbabwe to an astonishing response.
Their first performance in South Africa at Stepping Stones is on a platform that presents dance works from community-based youth groups and young choreographers.
This guarantees KENEILWE – A Dance for the Given an audience of international festival directors, choreographers and performers who have descended in Johannesburg for this important event on Africa’s contemporary dance calender.
“It is at Stepping Stones that some of Africa’s most successful choreographers and dance companies have received not only great reviews but opportunities to breakthrough into a larger market.”
KENEILWE – A Dance for the Given is an African Contemporary Dance production presented by Sky Blue Dance Hub that explores unique Botswana stories about the issues of displacement. Choreographed by Tumisang Baatshwana, it looks at the external influences and circumstances that various communities in our country face. We delve into the emotions, spiritual and mental state of the individual and how displacement has affected their lives. Essentially, we interpret the experiences that the affected have been given, through dance. Keneilwe is a Setswana word that means, “I have been given.”
