Major Moves Comedy Nights are bringing non-stop laughter with Zimbabwe and Botswana’s most funny stand-up comedians. The show promises fireworks on Friday the 2 nd of March at Multicuisine Restaurant at Zambezi towers in the CBD which is easily accessible to patrons who will experience top notch entertainment.
The show will be headlined by Long John and will feature Thapelo Malani, Phenyo “The Master” Phaladi and upcoming comedians. South African based Long John is one of Zimbabwe’s fastest growing and continentally acclaimed comedian. He has that inert ability to augment rib-tickling comedy and to invoke an engaging badinage in every setting be it corporate, social or even in a religious set up with a raillery that’s smart and immaculately carved. The village boy as he’s affectionately known, had his first breakthrough performance in 2012 at the Simuka comedy night Book café. He performed his first comedy tours in South Africa in 2014 and 2015 performing over 15 shows alongside big names such as Loyiso Gola, John Vlismas, Tall Ass Mo, Barry Hilton, Joe parker, etc. He has previously toured Namibia and United Kingdom where he performed at The African Comedy Festival and local comedy clubs in London which include the high-status Cavendish Comedy Club. He has performed at the Swaziland International Comedy Festival, Mzansi Comedy Nights on DSTV’s Mzansi Magic and is currently touring the world with dates in Australia, Botswana, Ireland, Namibia, Lesotho, and Zambia.
Thapelo Malani is a visually impaired comedian who has performed and shared stages with big names locally and internationally. His funny, imaginative routines and good-humored jibes are perfect for any audience and for any event. He has performed at the Heavyweights International Comedy Festival (HICOFEST), GIMC Comedy Night, Francistown Comedy Night and has opened for Shampoonaiza at Pretoria State Theatre and Mmabatho Convention Center in Mafikeng. The comedy heavyweight always proves that he is a force to reckon by belting out witty and humorous punch lines that leaves the audience in stitches wherever he performs.
Phenyo The Master is one of the funniest and most active comedians to come out of Botswana. He always brings clean, high energy, fun and clever comedy to any stage raging on the absurd, ridiculous and unbelievable. In 2016 he was invited as one of the select few African comedians to represent Botswana at the biggest comedy awards in Africa, the Savanna Comics Choice Awards. He has had great performances at ZeroChill Comedy in Swaziland, Mahikeng Comedy Jam, Indigenous Food and Comedy Festival in Johannesburg, Shampoonaiza Comedy Nights and Lesotho Comedy Remedy.
“We are introducing monthly shows and we are exploring ways of getting Botswana talent including upcoming comedians to shine locally and internationally. This event is another way to develop a different and alternative form of leisure as well as get comedians active and at par with international acts. We will be giving comedians more time on stage as the headliner will be doing a full set of his 1 Man Show and we’ll also include upcoming comedians.” said events coordinator for Major Moves Comedy, Gaolathe Kediemetse. In their quest to create a sustainable market and continual artist development, Major Moves Comedy has secured a booking for Francistown based Augustus Phillimon and Thapelo Malani in Bulawayo alongside Clive Chigubu at the Rainbow Hotel on Friday the 23rd of February. “We are excited to be hosting a fresh international comedian from Harare, Zimbabwe. However, we are equally excited that our comedians will be making their debut performance in Bulawayo the week before. Our main aim is to see standup comedy growing in Botswana as part of mainstream entertainment.” he added. The venue sponsor is Multicuisine Restaurant which is in the heart of the city at Zambezi Towers in the CBD. Multicuisine strives to satisfy each and every soul that steps into their restaurant with the best of quality and taste that leaves one with a lasting and intense food pleasure no matter which part of the world they are from.
