Members of the Investment Analysts Society (IAS) have voted Eskom as the leader in corporate reporting in the sector – Mining & Resources for the 2013 financial year.
This is the third time in a row that Eskom has won the IAS award – a bronze statuette of a squirrel – and the state-owned company is proud to be recognised by the IAS as leaders in reporting and communication. The squirrel award was presented to Eskom Chairman Zola Tsotsi at a ceremony held at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in Sandton last night.
“Thank you to the Investment Analysts Society for this accolade, one that I can assure you is held in high esteem by Eskom, and which I am honoured to accept on behalf of the company,” Tsotsi said.
“Eskom endeavours to be a transparent organisation. Our customer base has grown from 872 000 in 1994, to just over 5.2 million in March 2014. Our stakeholder base is extensive and far-reaching, and the responsibility of the company to operate and develop on a sustainable basis in order to enrich the lives all South Africans is not taken lightly,” added Tsotsi.
The integrated report, which incorporates the need for integrated thinking, has been a valuable tool in guiding the company on the path to sustainable growth, and Eskom is proud to be a pioneer in this field.
Eskom’s Finance Director Tsholofelo Molefe thanked the IAS for recognising the hard work that Eskom had embarked on in the past couple of years to improve its level of reporting and communication to investors and other stakeholders.
“It is heart-warming to receive another squirrel and to be recognized alongside the best of the best. Eskom places significant value on this award, as the first state-owned entity recognised by the society. Integrated Reporting has been beneficial in improving our dialogue with stakeholders and has been a key enabler to honour Eskom’s commitment to transparency,” Molefe said.
Eskom is a member of the International Integrated Reporting Council’s (IIRC’s) pilot programme. Its involvement in the IIRC’s pilot programme is key for Eskom to remain abreast of international reporting trends.
