In a continuation of its charitable efforts as part of the Bank’s 20th anniversary celebrations this year, Stanbic Bank Maun Branch will be donating a vegetable garden worth P20, 000.00 to Moremi Primary School in Maun on 10th November 2012.

Stanbic Bank Maun branch staff members have established a vegetable garden with total of 50 plots, 42 of which are allocated to the students and remaining 8 plots for Stanbic Bank staff and the school teachers.  The allocation of plots to staff is a testament to the Stanbic Bank team’s promise to play an increasingly more proactive role in terms of staff involvement and commitment to the local community.

The vegetable garden project’s objective is to give the students at Moremi Primary School vegetable production practice, feed the students from the harvest as well as to sell surplus harvest in order to raise funds for meeting their other needs. Amongst the crops to be harvested are spinach, carrots and maize, which will add to the food supplies the school receives from the council.

Moremi Primary School is a residential primary school which also accomodates children with various disabilities. It currently has special class of 42 pupils with disabilities who are in different vocational levels.

Head of Public Sector at Stanbic Bank, Scholar Puso said – “It is heartbreaking to realise that many of these children cannot comprehend academic work due to their inability to reason and absorb academic material. I am glad that our Maun Branch staff members have committed to empower these children by developing this vegetable garden.  We believe this donation will give the children a chance to practice what they learn in class and even use these vegetable production skills to sustain themselves in future.”

“In the 20 years that Stanbic Bank has been a part of Botswana, our sense of pride and commitment to the communities we operate in has increased significantly. We recently donated at jungle gym to Ratsie Primary School in Palapye to afford the children the necessary physical training and social interactive skills.  As we look forward to the many years ahead, we also look forward to increasing our dedication to those around us. The children of Moremi Primary School are just one example of Stanbic Bank’s unwavering dedication towards moving Batswana forward and helping to cultivate a stronger and more empowered community,” said Stanbic Bank Public Relations Manager, Ruth Modisane.
