In an effort to establish a long-term commitment to the fight against breast cancer, Botswana’s leading life insurer, Botswana Life Insurance Limited, has taken its partnership with the Journey of Hope Botswana into the second year running.
Earlier this year, the life insurer committed P30, 000 to the just-completed Big Ride, an annual countrywide awareness and testing campaign by Journey of Hope. The funding went towards sponsoring a bike and a rider, thereby increasing the number of volunteers that the organization could take on the campaign, which started in Kasane and ended in Gaborone.
In 2012, Botswana Life donated medical gazebos worth over P40, 000 to the Journey of Hope. These gazebos make it possible for volunteers to conduct examinations and counseling in private during campaigns.
To further demonstrate commitment to the cause, Botswana Life has “gone pink” for the month of October, replacing its iconic blue logo with a stylised pink one on all their print adverts during the cancer awareness month. The pink campaign will culminate in a client event on the 26th of October, hosted in conjunction with the Journey of Hope at the Grand Palm gardens, where clients will be treated to awareness talks, testing and testimonials.
Botswana Life CEO Ms Catherine Lesetedi-Letegele explained “We’re very proud of the growth that we see in our relationship with the Journey of Hope. They’re doing an exceptional job. Every day, we see new opportunities of work that we can do with them to get the message out there that breast cancer is curable if detected early. With early detection, there is no reason for lives to be lost. As a life insurer, it is in our interests to ensure that dread diseases such as cancer are detected early and given the right treatment in order to reduce mortality rates and extend the lives of the affected”.
