Arguably the pre-eminent social event on the South African summer calendar, the unforgettable J&B Met is set to return to Cape Town on Saturday, 1st February 2014 at the Kenilworth Racecourse.
Themed ‘Made to Conquer – Dress Victoriously’ the 37th edition of the J&B Met will once again merge equestrian prowess with high fashion; attracting revelers from within and across South Africa’s borders to bring their fashion bravado.
“Arguably Africa’s biggest summer horseracing spectacle, the J&B Met draws people from all corners of the world to enjoy a good day out at the horses coupled with a fashion showcase. Even more exciting is the fact that this year Cape Town will also hosting the final of the CHAN 2014 final on the same day as the J&B Met.” said Debbie Damant, Country Manager for Southern Africa at South African Tourism.
“Quite simply, it’s nothing short of magical, and the atmosphere all around Cape Town is unrivalled, making it the perfect time to be in the city to take in the unique sights, sounds and vibes that the mother city has to offer,” continued Ms Damant
Guests are called on to ‘Dress Victorious’ and take their lead from J&B’s vibrant, irrepressible spirit, drawing from the theme what they wish. Tradition and pageantry may constitute the core of the historical horse race but, the J&B Met is just as much about ground-breaking fashion that challenges the conventional and celebrates the bold.
The highlight of the day will be the transformation of the lawns of the Kenilworth Racecourse into a veritable fashion haven as the incredibly popular J&B ‘Most Elegant Couple Competition’ gets underway. Due to its popularity and the increase in participants, the contest comes complete with a pre-judging process, whittling down the hundreds to the final 16 couples. Aspirant fashion-savvy couples are encouraged to arrive before noon to enter and judges will carefully select 16 finalists from hundreds of entrants. The final 16 couples then take part in the finals, hosted by television celebrities from Expresso, the morning show, as they fight to take home a basketful of great prizes in addition to the coveted title.
