Bank of Botswana has released the dates of when it intends to remove old coins from circulation following the issuance of new unpopular ones early in the year.
Head of Communications at the Central Bank, Andrew Sesinyi reminded the public in a statement that following the launch and issuing of the new family of coin in February 2014, the old coin will be demonetised with effect from August 28, 2014.
“Thereafter, the old coin will be exchanged only at the Bank of Botswana in Gaborone and Francistown for a period of five (5) years until August 28, 2019. The public is requested to exchange old coin at the nearest commercial bank before the deadline of August 28, 2014.”
