This Tuesday, 24th September 2013, saw local short term insurance provider, BIHL Sure!,  hold a graduation ceremony for members of its Legal Guard team, graduates of the business’ Certificate of Proficiency (COP) Alternate Certificate Course.

Held at Boipuso Hall, the ceremony saw certificates awarded to 20 members of the sales agency force by BIHL Sure! CEO Mr. John Haenen, in what proved to be another testament to the rewards of investing in the growth and development of staff skills.

Said Mr. Haenen commented, “It is indeed a fruitful gathering as we have come to yet again acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of so many of the hardworking members of the Sure! family.

Such a course was a new development for Sure!, and one which I am proud to say was developed from its very bare bones internally by our own team. To see everyone’s efforts and dedication pay off today is to see opportunity having been seized and conquered, and for that we can all be incredibly proud.”

The programme,  which was launched in April 2013, was developed and run in-house as a BOTA and NBIFIRA accredited legal expense insurance course.

The 20 graduates are the first group to have undertaken the newly developed programme which saw six weeks of active tuition internally. Unlike the standard Certificate of Proficiency courses offered across academic institutions which focus on insurance as whole, the COP alternate certificate programme developed by Sure! has been curated and customised to  the legal cover as offered by Legal Guard.

Said Mr. Ben Tobedza, Marketing Director at BIHL Sure!, “We wanted to make an investment in our staff that not only sees further growth in their own vocational qualifications, but which in turn empowers them to better understand and successfully meet the challenge of excelling in the workplace.

In fact, what began as a pilot programme has proved incredibly successful and we’re pleased to note we will continue to invest in our valued staff in this way. We could not be more proud of our graduates for their dedication and hard work.”

The success of the programme has since seen the course being introduced in other areas of the country. Training has begun in both Francistown and Maun, with staff currently enrolled in the programme expected top graduate before September.

All BIHL Sure! Legal Guard staff are expected to have the NBIFIRA stipulated qualifications by the end of the year, a testament to the instrumental role the business sector plays in society and the role that graduates will go on to play in their communities and in helping to grow and shape the Botswana economy.
