Intellegere Media presents The BlackBerry Jam Session – Botswana Hackathon, which is set to take place at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology on Saturday 30th November.  A Hackathon is an event where developers attempt to produce working applications (apps) in a short amount of time. The Botswana Hackathon will open at 8:00am with registration and close at 7:00pm when the eventual winners will be selected.

“The Botswana Hackathon is part of Intellegere Media’s continuing plan to grow the local Developer industry. The past several months have seen us travel across Botswana hosting Project 120 seminars. What we were presenting as Project 120 was an opportunity for Batswana from different professions to come together with Developers to make apps. We encouraged apps which provide home grown solutions for home grown challenges. The Hackathon will really test the skill, creativity and imagination of all participants,” said Itumeleng Garebatshabe, CEO of Intellegere Holdings.

The Hackathon will give teams of three people an opportunity to put their collective knowledge to the test making apps. Teams will be able to Hack (work on) their app ideas with the support of people from the industry including BlackBerry experts. The Hackathon intends to have ideas developed into working apps within a day. The event gives teams an opportunity to turn the feeling of “I think it can work” into something real and exciting.

The Blackberry Hackathon takes place at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology on November 30th. Generous support from BlackBerry as well as the Botswana Innovation Hub and Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) made the Botswana Hackathon possible.

“This event has the potential to place Botswana at the cutting edge of technological developments. Even though recent news reports have talked about BlackBerry’s corporate challenges, we still have a very real opportunity to create something relevant in one day. The ideas and the resultant apps will still be able to make a difference to Batswana through a successful Hackathon,” concluded Garebatshabe.

The BlackBerry Jam Session – Botswana Hackathon is a continuation of the successful Blackberry Jam Tour Africa which was held in April. Insights and tips on how best to use the Blackberry 10 OS to produce working apps were the focus of the Jam Tour.
