The Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) and Go Corporate Wellness Solutions commenced a weeklong wellness week for BOCRA staff from Monday 17th to 21th February 2013. This, an annual initiative by the Authority with the theme ‘Transforming Your Life Through Wellness’ was held at BOCRA offices and consequently at the Bank of Botswana Grounds. The initiative was held with the aim to encourage and promote healthier lifestyles for the BOCRA team.

Said, Chief Executive Officer, of BOCRA, Mr Thari Pheko, “I believe the week allowed everyone to relax and enjoy the personal attention the program was equipped with. The week was intended to bring changes in modifiable health risk behaviours such as stress, fitness, and exercise. A positive change in those behaviours certainly improves health and productivity.  I hope the efforts of those that were involved in making the week possible helped the BOCRA workforce feel more empowered to change their lives for the better.”

Activities of the week encompassed, informative talks and coaching gearing towards a balanced life, voluntary HIV testing and counselling and assessments via health risk screening and satisfactory surveys. Staff members were treated to body massages challenged with exercises and served nutritious healthy meals. Workplace wellness programs assist with combating cholesterol levels, blood pressure and weight issues. It is important to acknowledge that the bottom line of such programs is that healthy employees tend to be happier and more productive. Because employees are the most valuable assets to any company it makes it justifiable to integrate these workplace wellness programs. BOCRA is no exception.

Mrs. Kebareiling Seane, Human Resources Deputy Director added, I hope all that participated took take time and set personal health goals prior to the wellness week and realized them. The mission was to keep everyone encouraged, and not only for the course of the week, but continually and transform their lives through wellness.
