As part of the BIHL Trust’s unwavering dedication towards supporting the growth and education of Batswana, the Trust has once again opened for applications for the Thomas Tlou Scholarship programme. Applications are already open to the public, with a closing date of June 30th 2014.

Said BIHL Trust Administrator, Tebogo Keepetsoe, “Professor Thomas Tlou was a renowned historian and educationalist, having left an incredible legacy amongst Batswana. The BIHL Trust actively supports the heritage of Botswana and as such, recognised the significant role that the eminent historian Professor Thomas Tlou played and continues to play in our lives through his works. With this scholarship, BIHL Trust has chosen to help in education development as a way of carrying on the historian and diplomat’s work in the sector.”

BIHL together with the Tlou family, led by Professor Sheila Tlou, conceptualised the BIHL Thomas Tlou Scholarship, named after the late Professor Thomas Tlou, in 2012.  The scholarship benefits talented young Batswana with aspirations to pursue postgraduate studies in any discipline aimed at contributing to Botswana’s socio-economic development.

All citizens of Botswana who wish to pursue a Masters programme in any discipline at Universities in Botswana are eligible for the scholarship.Applicants must hold a recognized first degree at the time of the application for the scholarship and must have an acceptance letter from the university in order to be considered.

“In a growing economy like ours, opportunities to grow and prosper are endless. The BIHL Thomas Tlou Scholarship is offering deserving Batswana the opportunity to further their studies, contribute to and be a part of the nation’s growth. Of course, the standards for the scholarship will be high as we want to award it only to the very best candidate, for instance, exhibiting and living true to such values as leadership, entrepreneurship and a belief in the inherent power of education,” continued Keepetsoe.

Two Scholarships were awarded in 2012 and in the 2013 academic year an additional 4 students were awarded the prestigious scholarship to the value of P 450 000.00.  The Trust strives to have four students enrolled at any given time; this year will once again see two scholarships available.

All interested applicants are advised to apply before the June 30th 2014 deadline. An application form inclusive of all details can be found at all Botswana Life branches across the country.
