Managing Director of BIC, Dziki Nganunu
Botswana Insurance Company (BIC) has recognised and awarded its staff who achieved industry certifications at a recent function.
When speaking at the function, the company’s Managing Director, Dziki Nganunu, placed emphasis on the importance of self development and the need for employees to continuously introspect and identify areas of growth.
The outgoing MD stated that BIC is committed to developing skills and investing in its human resources, recognising the importance and contribution that staff make towards the overall growth strategy.
Guest Speaker, Cheshe Dow, acknowledged that education is key and essential for success and spoke of the importance of curiosity in an adverse economy, and the need to be objective.
She encouraged BIC staff to not accept the notion that all will be ok, but rather to venture into uncertainty instead of sitting back and hope for the best. Dow also inspired BIC employees to be adventurous and try new things both in their personal and professional capacity.
BIC Human Resources Manager, Gosego Mooki on the other hand stated that capacity building is one of the highest priorities set in the human resources strategy. “Enhancing skill development not only adds value to our employees, but works hand in hand with the organisation’s long term strategic plans,” said Mooki.
Mooki further stated the importance of staff acquiring the right skills, qualifications and expertise to excel in their professional careers. Fifteen staff members, some under the government internship program, attained a Certificate of Proficiency in insurance; one obtained a higher certificate in Insurance and another Advanced Diploma in Insurance. One of BIC’s long standing staff members received a fellowship – an outstanding achievement within the industry.
BIC incentivises its employees for their education achievements; this is part of a motivational tactic to encourage its talent pool to expand their knowledge within the industry. Another important element for BIC is its contribution towards the country’s vision 2016 vision of building an educated and an informed nation.
