BIC staff taking part at Intersurance Games
Botswana Insurance Company took part in a sports weekend that was held on the 22nd to 23rd August 2014 at the BIC recreation room and the Botswana National Youth Council grounds. It was a fun filled weekend as insurance companies took time off their busy schedules to get together and compete against each other in a relaxed environment.
The intersurance games gave employees time to enjoy themselves by participating in different sporting codes while in the process relieving stress and networking with their competitors in the industry.
BIC staff participated in both indoor and outdoor games which included but not limited to chess, darts, pool, netball, athletics and football. BIC walked away with 3rd position out of 5. Sports plays a vital role in our everyday lives as it presents an opportunity to develop friendships centered around an active and enjoyable lifestyle. It also provides socializing alternatives that are healthier and more active compared with regular settings of our modern sedentary lifestyle.
Corporate sports competitions have proven to be a key to developing strong relationships and improved networking. The games gave BIC staff invaluable lessons that can be applied in the corporate world. Hard work, determination, positive attitude and commitment to a common goal leads a team to success. These winning lessons can be adopted by businesses to ward off competition.
This year’s games were a little tougher but BIC is proud to note that we performed fairly well to have even received an award for overall performance. BIC’s performance in all the categories were as follows: Volleyball ( mixed ) – Position 2, Football (men) – Position 1, Chess – Position 3, Darts – Position 5, Pool – Position 1, Athletics – Position 3 and Netball ( ladies ) – Position 2.
