The potential for Batswana to excel in business management has been further boosted by yet another development from Botswana Accountancy College (BAC), in the form of the School of Business & Leisure.
BAC recently launched the leisure academic portfolio under the School of Business & Leisure, of which the programmes are strategically offered at the city of Francistown. The city is embarking on an economic development plan that is geared towards making Francistown an investment centre. With the establishment of these programmes, BAC aims to be one of the contributors towards this goal for the city of Francistown and for and beyond, by producing market ready graduates in the areas of tourism and hospitality.
“At BAC, we pride ourselves with strides we continue to make in achieving our goal – producing what the economy needs. We are always on the lookout for how we can contribute to the development of Botswana and the School of Business & Leisure will do just that. We intend to groom future, entrepreneurs, trend setters and business managers who will play their part in the diversification of growth of Botswana’s economy,” said BAC Executive Director, Michael Lesolle.
Francistown is a gateway to countries like Zambia, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia, hence a commercial hub. The location of the campus will give the students the opportunity to interact with a commercial environment on a daily basis beyond their studies. This development will also see Francistown become a preferred city by tertiary students, contributing towards the growth of the city.
The School of Business & Leisure will focus on businesses management, and also drive innovative and sustainable entrepreneurship. The Honours Degree programmes offered include; Accounting & Finance; Entrepreneurship and Business Leadership; Business Management; International Finance and Banking; International Hospitality Management; and Tourism Management, International Salon Management specialising in Beauty Therapy or Hair Dressing.
Tourism and hospitality continue to significantly contribute to the country’s economy and these management courses will equip future managers with the skills to ensure the continued growth of the sector and other industries as well. Batswana are also embracing entrepreneurship and venturing into businesses with potential for growth. The BAC School of Business & Leisure aims to sharpen management and business skills while shaping the students into competent business leaders for the corporate world or self-employment.
“In developing and growing the private sector, human resources are a crucial element in management of these businesses and organisations. We are known as a Botswana business school and with this new faculty we aim to up the ante to position BAC as the business school of choice,” stated Mpho Mokgosi, Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications at BAC.
