Eskom-logoEskom has emerged as the overall winner of the 2014 Nkonki SOC (state-owned companies) Integrated Reporting Awards. This is the third year in succession that Eskom has received this coveted accolade.

Eskom also scooped the first prize in the integrated reporting and disclosure categories. These awards recognise state-owned companies that have excelled in integrated reporting in South Africa during 2013.

Eskom’s reports have sought to provide all stakeholders with a complete, independent and transparent account of Eskom’s accomplishments, challenges and future priorities. Eskom Group Executive for Sustainability Dr Steve Lennon accepted the awards on behalf of the company and said that the accolade recognised Eskom’s commitment to transparency and to being a leader in integrated reporting.

“I am truly honoured to accept this award on behalf of the company. These awards encourage us to do better. We have a philosophy of continual improvement and in looking to the future Eskom has integrated sustainability into its future business model. This model considers the financial, technological, environmental, human and social imperatives which will drive our future. In this way we believe that Eskom will continue to be amongst leaders in the pursuit of a truly sustainable future,” Dr Lennon said.

Eskom’s Finance Director, Tsholofelo Molefe said she was thankful that Eskom had been acknowledged as a leader in integrated reporting. “The integrated report has been a valuable tool in guiding the company on the path to sustainable growth, and Eskom is proud to be a pioneer in this field,” she said.

The Nkonki SOC Integrated Reporting Awards accolade follows the Squirrel Award that was awarded to Eskom by the Investment Analysts Society last week for its Integrated Report in the Mining & Resources sector for the 2013 financial year.
