Lansmore Masa Square has showed support for breast cancer awareness through an evening dedicated to spreading the word and raising money for the cause. The hotel coffee shop, Espretto, dedicated its popular Thursday Ladies’ Night cocktail evening to a breast cancer awareness theme. Lansmore Masa Square further enlisted collaborations from local personalities and organisations to further drive the breast cancer awareness message.
“Since opening our doors to the public earlier this year, Lansmore Masa Square has had the betterment and support of our community at the forefront of our minds. We continue to seek ways of working to increase our footprint in the community, and this is once such effort,” says Lansmore Masa Square General Manager, Rupert Elliott.
For every Pink Cosmopolitan signature cocktail sold, P5.00 went towards breast cancer awareness initiatives within the city. In addition, Lansmore Masa Square engaged local celebrity DJ, DJ Oneal, to provide entertainment for the night.
Cancer Association of Botswana, moreover, set up in order to provide educational literature on breast cancer, its prevalence, prevention, and treatment. Patrons were advised and guided on how to properly conduct breast cancer examinations during the course of the evening, with checks also being carried out. Finally, the now iconic Masa Centre lights, which usually change colours throughout the night, were set pink all evening in a show of support for those affected by breast cancer and to show support for the cause as a whole.
The driving factor behind the evening’s initiative, beyond October being breast cancer awareness month, lays in the fact that the prevalence of breast cancer within both men and women has proven to be on the rise. This, says Mr. Elliott, was the reason Lansmore Masa Square felt the need to take a more proactive approach in showing support for the cause.
“We are incredibly grateful for all those who volunteered their time and efforts into making the initiative a success: DJ Oneal, Lebo Mokgatle from Creative Planet who provided us with delicious sweet treats, MASA Centre, KAWA entertainment for photography, and of course Cancer Association of Botswana. Through this awareness effort, we hope to encourage others to join in showing support for breast cancer awareness in some way,” concludes Elliott.
