Debswana Managing Director, Jim Gowans, has urged Kgatleng Region educators to continuously motivate learners in order to sustain a culture of academic excellence in schools.
Gowans, who was speaking at the Ministry of Education and Skills Development – Kgatleng Regional Excellence Awards Ceremony held at Phaphane Primary school in Mochudi recently said it is also important for both teaching and non-teaching staff to be inspired so as to maintain high productive levels in order to complement government’s concerted efforts at improving education. The Kgatleng Excellence Awards were held under the theme; “Inspired, excelling students and staff: the key to unlocking limitless opportunities”.
Gowans further noted that students’ academic achievements as well as improvement in a school’s performance are always attributable to effective school leadership.
“Let me challenge all institutional leaders here present to rise to the occasion and manage schools in a way that can produce excellent results. Schools are judged on the basis of excellent results which in turn are driven by great leadership”, he said.
Gowans also spoke about Debswana Schools Development programme which aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning in government schools at both Jwaneng and Orapa. He said, “the main aim of the programme is to develop teachers in the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science. Each mine site has three specialist teachers in their payroll whose mandate is to augment the efforts of teachers in government schools”.
In recognising of the importance of celebrating excellence and supporting a continued culture of academic excellence, Debswana donated PI0 000 towards the awards ceremony.
