Gem Diamonds Botswana names Kario General Manager for Ghaghoo Mine

Ghagoo mine photoGem Diamonds Botswana has appointed former legislator Kavis Kario as the General Manager for its Ghaghoo Diamond Mine located in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR.).
The underground mine is currently under construction.

 
Managing Director of Gem Diamonds Botswana, Haile Mphusu said Kario will be responsible for the day to day operations during the construction period and he will be in charge of production and operations once the mine starts operating in 2014.

 
Kario brings a wealth of experience in mining, having started his career at BCL as a Graduate Trainee, Mine Captain/Superintendent , Mine Planning Engineer, Underground Manager and Production Manager.
Kario took a break from his profession in 2004 and joined politics where he was a Member of Parliament for Selibe Phikwe West and Assistant Minister of Education. After the 2009 General Election, Kario went back to his career and he was re-employed by BCL as Manager-Ore Production Selibe North Shaft from January 2010 to December 2011 and later became Manager-Ore Production (Mining and Smelting) Phikwe Central Shaft until August 2012.
When he left BCL he joined Debswana Diamond Company, Jwaneng Mine as Mining Operation Manager where he was responsible for the development of the mining strategy and management of mining operations and the maintenance functions of the mine.
Kario graduated from the University of Leeds with a Bachelor of Mining Engineering (BEng Honours) in 1993 and did an Advanced Mining Course at the University of Lulea in Sweden.
He has also undergone an Anglo American Management Development Program at the University of Stellenbosch and General Management program at Harvard Business School, Boston.
