First Friday Comedy Serves Laughter At Masa Square Hotel

The third installment of First Friday Comedy Nights is bringing non-stop laughter with funny local and international stand-up comedians at Masa Square Hotel.

Having hosted Emmanuel Musaka from Zambia in February and South Africa’s multi-award winner Sifiso Nene in March, Major Moves Comedy is bringing Lesotho’s renowned comic Masapo Mpiti for the April show. The show which promises fireworks as the previous two is slated for Friday the 5 th of April at Masa Square Hotel in the CBD which is easily accessible to patrons.

The show will be hosted by Onkgopotse “Mdala Ka Tjeludo” Mugende and will also feature Dumisani ‘Maforty’ Ndlovu from Zimbabwe, Abel Maruza from Kasane, Augustus Phillimon from Francistown and upcoming comedians. Maruza is one of Botswana’s funniest, and the man behind Robert Mugabe Quotes page which has over 3 million followers all over Africa, Europe and America. He has extensively toured with Major Moves Comedy and has performed internationally in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Swaziland. He has that inert ability to augment rib-tickling comedy and to invoke an engaging badinage in every setting.

Events coordinator for Major Moves Comedy Gaolathe Kediemetse said, “Since we introduced monthly shows we have had tremendous support and are now exploring ways of getting Botswana talent to shine internationally. KLo will be performing in Kenya at the end of March, Thapelo Malani will be in Swaziland in April and Maruza will be going to Zambia in May. With these events we also build relations and exchange talent with other countries in our quest to create a sustainable market and continual artist development.”

MaForty has taken Zimbabwen comedy to a new level by creatively exploring issues which affect daily life. A rising force in the comic circuit, MaForty is an award-winning comedian, having scooped the Outstanding New Comer Award at the 2018 Bulawayo Arts Awards. He has toured the country, staging memorable shows in his hometown Bulawayo, Gweru, Hwange, Harare and Victoria Falls.

He has performed at Shoko Festival 2018 and won the Top Comedian competition at Shoko 2017. Masapo Mpiti who performed at HICOFEST 2018 has been featured on Forbes Magazine for his comedy exploits alongside Nigeria’s Basketmouth. He has also been nominated for the at South African Comics Choice Awards for Pan-African Comic of the Year category. “We promise spectacular shows with this production. We have fresh new lineup and people must come and experience the best and ultimate entertainment from beginning to the end.” Kediemetse added.

The venue sponsor is Masa Square Hotel which is in the heart of the city in the CBD. There will a comedy event at the hotel every First Friday of the month with a tantalising and mouthwatering lineup. Tickets for the event are available at Webtickets & Spar outlets priced from P150 single and P200 double. The show starts at 730pm.
